Virtual visits after your in-person intake.
Your first visit is in-person, at our Flood Building office. After that, most follow-ups can happen virtually — same clinician, same care, from wherever you are in California.
Why the first visit is in-person
The quality of a first psychiatric evaluation matters. In-person lets us notice nuances that video misses — affect, body language, fatigue patterns — and it establishes a relationship you can feel. For complex presentations, especially anything involving medications with safety considerations, the clinical standard is still in-person intake.
After intake, virtual works well
Once we have a working diagnosis and a treatment plan, follow-ups can happen from your home, office, or wherever you are — as long as you're physically in California during the visit.
What telehealth works well for
- Medication follow-ups — dose reviews, side-effect check-ins, refills
- Stable-patient ongoing visits
- Short-term CBT sessions (after we've met in person)
- Urgent same-week visits when something changes
What stays in-person
First visit. Annual re-evaluations, when appropriate. Any visit where the clinical picture has shifted and we need a full conversation. Your choice, always — if you prefer in-person, we accommodate.
Controlled substances
We follow all current state and federal rules. For many patients on controlled substances (e.g., stimulants for ADHD), in-person visits at a set interval remain part of the care plan, even with virtual visits in between.
